The National Library of Australia has officially announced the opening for this year’s applications for Community Heritage Grants (CHG).

Funded by the Australian Government through the Ministry of the Arts and the Attorney General’s Department,
the grant is managed by the National Library along with the National Archives of Australia, the National Film and Sound Archive, and the National Museum of Australia. This is a major support for local groups doing their bit to preserve our history.

Community groups around Australia that provide key preservation of culturally significant collections could be given grants of up to $15,000. This is a fantastic opportunity for all community historical groups both in rural and city areas to gain financial support in their endeavours to not just preserve nationally significant items, but to maintain interest in local Australian history.

Past recipients of the CHG include Thredbo Historical Society, Berrima and District Family Historical Society and Wangaratta Historical Society. You can read more about past recipients here.

Applications for 2015 Community Heritage Grants close on Friday the 1st of May at 5pm.

Read more about the grant here. You will find the guidelines for entering and application forms here.

Good luck!
