Hi Peggy, I couldn't agree more. So many moving experiences of WWI and of other times that never reach the light of day. Sadly, my grandfather's WWI diary was never read by his eight children, including my father. I was the first to read his exploits after my Aunty Betty, the youngest sibling gave me his diary just before her death. I never heard of these stories from his children, including my father.

But you must read the first article that I wrote for Inside History, March-April 2016, pp. that reveals a secret at Pozieres for the first time in over 100 years

Thank you Peggy, I couldn't agree with you more. There is so much personal history that never sees the light of day. Sadly, my grandfather's diary was never read by anyone until I received it from my Aunty Betty, the youngest child and sister to my father. Why read what the old man did during WWI... ? This I suggest was his children's standpoint... certainly my father and his siblings never shared such stories with their families including me.

You must read my first article from his war diary for Inside History, March-April 2016, pp 38-43. This article reveals a secret from WWI that remained so for more than 100 years!

Thank you for your comments.

The ABC series "The Sullivans" dealt fairly intensively and fairly accurately with the Battle of Wau in Volume Eight, episodes 364 to 378 which are now available again from Crawford Productions. Each episode deals only fairly briefly with Wau before switching to other strands of the story back in Melbourne about the fictional family. They have gone to a lot of trouble to get right the details of uniforms, weapons, tactics and geography but of course, since this is not meant to be a documentary they do not use real names. They use some period footage and the whole thing is quite entertaining and informative.

G'day Katrina,
If you wish to find out more relating to Norman Fleay, who a LT Colonel not a Major when he commanded Kanga. Most probably best source is the War Diary Commando Double Black written by Andy Pierie who served in the 2/5th Independent company part of Kanga. The book is out of print and hard to get second hand.

Contact me if you want any info or copy relevant pages..
I wrote the article above.

Hi Bet,
Matthias Muller/Matthew Miller is my ggg grandfather. I am very interested in the evidence you have for Jane Miller, Matthew Miller's daughter, being your ancestor. She is very difficult to trace.
Regards,

Dear Gary
Thank you for the response. I now know why the Huckle's in America thought that our John Thomas Huckle was there relative, Ancestry.com is an American company. I just wonder if intellectual property is an issue giving this site our personal information. And then you have to pay to use the site??? Also I have been to Canberra to see the Medals. It was very moving.
Regards Lorraine.
Sorry for taking so long to get back to you.
